Prenatal Massage

Prenatal Massage

Back in October of last year I bought a livingSocial deal for an hour massage.  Since we’re going to be moving I decided I needed to use up the massage so I finally got around to scheduling it for last night after work.  The name of the place was “The Body Works”.  It wasn’t very obvious that it was randomly on the 4th floor of a building in San Francisco a block from Union Square.  They had no signs out front and when I got off the elevator on the 4th floor there was a hall with lots of off white doors which looked a little eerie like something from a Tower of Terror movie.  The room itself was not the best, or even in the top 5 spas I’ve ever been to.  The atmosphere was lacking.  BUT… I really liked my masseuse.  She was a young girl named Megan who just recently moved to the city.  It was clear from the beginning that she knew what she was doing.  The massage felt amazing and she was very friendly.  This was my first massage as a pregnant lady and they don’t let you lay on your stomach.  So i had to lay on my sides for the back massage.  It was exactly what I was needing.  She got out lots of the “kinks”.  I didn’t want it to end, and I was a little shocked when it did since it ended 10 minutes before the hour was up… I had purchased the one hour massage, not a 50 minute massage.  One thing that she told me that I had never heard before that with pregnant ladies you have to be careful around their ankles (inside and out, but mostly outside), near the pinky toes, and near the pinky and outside area of the hands.  The masseuse said it was because it can actually induce labor.  I’m glad she told me because I plan on forcing Steve to give me foot rubs a little later on.  🙂

All in all I’d go back for the masseuse but there are much better places in the city for atmosphere.  I definitely need to treat myself to a few more prenatal massages for the twins!
