32 week growth scan

32 week growth scan

Today we met with our new OB for the first time at Hopkins.  Three doctors came in to chat with us all about the hospital and what we could expect.  Hopkins is a teaching hospital so there is always a group of people huddled around on call and learning.  I felt important having that many people asking me questions.  The doctors specialize in multiple pregnancies and had a similar feeling to the doctors in San Francisco.  Particularly that they would induce at 38 weeks if I hadn’t already gone in labor.  They also mentioned something that I hadn’t heard in that they would do a feet first extraction on baby B if he was breech.  Rather than reaching in and trying to flip him.  The doctors said that most twin births happen between weeks 35 and 36… that’s less than a month away…. scary!  I also got my whooping cough vaccine.  Overall I came away from the appointment having a good feeling about the Dr and knowing I’ll be in good hands at Hopkins.

Next we had a big ultra sound.  I guess Kaiser didn’t send over all the growth ultrasound pictures to the new dr’s so they wanted to do as much of a full scan as possible to make sure the babies were okay.  We spent about an hour with the technician.  She was really good and took lots of pictures that we were able to keep!  They had a monitor on the wall opposite me which was a lot nicer than Kaiser having to hold a mirror.  There was a lot of laughing and fun seeing the little guys.  The best was when we got to see a 3D picture of their faces.  Usually this late in the pregnancy it’s impossible to get a good picture because there just isn’t much room in there with all the growing body parts.  The cutest pictures is of baby A.  He is squished up against his brothers leg making a fish face.  The three of us were in hysterics giggling for a few minutes on that one.  Baby B is super cute and appears to have more room than his brother.  The 3D picture of Baby B was hard to get because he kept putting his arm over his eyes.  The one here shows his arm covering his mouth.

The ultra sound tech said that B was slightly behind A in the fight to see who got to come out first.  I’m hoping B wins that battle because that would mean the first baby out is heads down and I might not have to have a c-section!  Baby A weighed about 4 lbs 3 ounces and baby B was bigger at 4 lbs 7 ounces.
