The boys are already half a year old… I’m going to cry.  They’re growing up WAY too fast.  Can you believe these little guys were once this tiny (see pics).  Looking back at the pictures, I can’t believe they sent us home with such fragile little babies.

They have grown a lot this past month.  Here’s a few highlights:

  • They are eating solids!  The big thing is rice cereal.  But they have also had bananas, peas, and sweet potatoes.
  • They are both wearing size 2 diapers, size 3 night time.
  • They aren’t sleeping through the night yet. *tear*  They usually go to bed around 8 pm and get up every 3 or so hours.  Sometimes there is a 4 hour stretch if we’re lucky.  Steve has been awesome.  He will bring both boys to me and they’ll eat and then he carries them back to their cribs.  Luckily they’ve been really great about falling right back asleep.
  • Keri, our nanny, has been with the boys for a month now and the whole familiy loves her.  We’re so lucky we found such a great nanny.
  • They are both the happiest babies I’ve ever met.  They smile and laugh all the time.  They are enjoying ever minute of their little lives.
  • They are doing so good on tummies.  They can entertain themselves on the floor for a long time without crying to be picked up.  Any day now they’ll be crawling in opposite directions.
  • I can’t talk anymore when I’m feeding them.  If I say anything they’ll get distracted and look up.  Even though it only takes about 5 to 6 minutes for them to eat it can be a battle to get them to focus.
  • Their eyes keep getting bluer and bluer each day.
  • As predicted, they are best buds.  They glance at each other and smile and laugh but still prefer to talk to the adults.

Anthony

  • Weight: 16 lbs (25%)
  • Height: 25″ (10%)
  • Head Circumference: 16 3/4″ (25%)
  • Anthony is our eater.  He LOVES to eat.  He opens his mouth up really big and takes solids from the spoon.  He doesn’t seem to be picky either, he’ll eat anything and everything.
  • Anthony loves to look up at me and smile while he’s eating.  I’ve gotten to where I can’t make eye contact with him.
  • We haven’t seen Anthony move yet but I have a feeling he is close.  When we leave him for naps he is never where we left him in his crib.  Tummy time  also has him turning in circles.
  • Anthony is still swaddled about twice a week at night.  Only when he’s really worked up and can’t go to bed the comfort of having his arms close by will get him to calm down.  However, we’ve been trying to avoid it.
  • Anthony has the “G” sound down.  Goo goo and gaa gaa are frequent words as well as gurgles.
  • As you can probably see by these photos, Anthony is the master of facial expressions.  Today at the pediatrician’s office she said he was flirting with her because he wrinkled up his nose and smiled at her.  He is a ladies man.

Nathan

  • Weight: 14 lbs 6 ounces (10%)
  • Height: 24 1/2″ (5%)
  • Head Circumference: 16 3/4″ (25%)
  • Even though Nathan has had all the same solids as Anthony he isn’t really ready.  He sticks his little tongue out and makes a face like it’s the worst thing he’s ever tasted.  In fact, he’ll even go as far as to gag himself which causes him to spit up everywhere.
  • Nathan’s personality hasn’t changed much, he is still very curious.  He is easily distracted by giving him his pacifier which he’s pass between hands just examining closely.  He is always in awe about how things work.
  • Nathan is more laid back.  He won’t cry when he wakes up, he’ll look around his crib and talk to himself.  Sometimes I’ll accidentally scare him because he’ll be looking at something when I come in and I’ll say hi and touch him and he jumps.
  • As I mentioned in a previous post, he’s “inching”.  If there is something he really wants to get to he’ll get there slowly.  He is a very determined little guy!

 Us

  • I got a new job!  I’m going back to Software Group at IBM working with the emerging internet technologies group on standards.  I’ll get to evangelize open source software like Apache Cordova and HTML5 focusing on mobile, social, and cloud.  I’ll be officially starting in the next couple weeks and can’t wait.
  • Life is a blur, the house is a mess (doesn’t help that the kitchen remodel STILL isn’t done), there aren’t enough hours in the day …but we’re loving every minute of being parents and each day the boys get that much more fun.
