Sick

Sick

Our whole house is sick.  Nathan and Steve were the first to get it and have had a cough for going on two weeks now.  I got it about 10 days ago, Anthony seems to have a mild cough, and some how Grandma is staying healthy.  The worst part about me being sick is the girls also got sick.  They are congested at night which makes it hard for them to breath and eat.  We’ve been using saline mist on their noses and that seems to help a little bit but it’s hard to watch them struggle through eating at night.  I’ve been having coughing fits around the 5 am feeding making it hard and sometimes impossible to go back to sleep.  During the day we all seem okay.  Steve has been back at work so it’s just Grandma and myself doing the night time feedings.  It’s been pretty consistent at 2 1/2 to 3 hours between feedings.  We’re hoping they’ll go longer once they feel healthy….I don’t know what I’m going to do once my mom has to leave.  I’m already starting to get nervous about it.

Yesterday was the boys 15 month appointment . We took them to the pediatrician and they had two shots. When we got home they were acting okay but kind of sleepy . At 4:30 pm, Ann called upstairs to let me know Nathan was puking . He looked miserable and kept throwing up every 10 minutes.  It was scary.  We called the doctor for the second time around 7:30 pm and she said to take Nathan to the emergency room because of the worry of dehydration since he wasn’t holding down any liquids. Luckily our nanny is awesome… Ann came back to the house to hang out while Anthony slept and Steve and I headed to the hospital.

They triaged us and gave Nathan some zofran to stop the vomitting. It really was a magic pill. He was so much better after that.  Within 20 minutes he was no longer puking and was even asking for juice.  He was a whole new person.  We had to wait a bit longer before we could be taken back to see the doctor and she barely looked at him and said that the stomach flu was “going around”.  She gave us a prescription for zofran and sent us on our way.

Maybe he got something at the pediatrician’s office.  There weren’t any other kids there though so it must’ve been handling the blocks and toys.  Nathan did so much better today. It’s sad to see our little guy so miserable.  Despite it all he was his normal happy self when he wasn’t throwing up and even managed to crack a smile and laugh at daddy:

First Cold

First Cold

Unfortunately our entire house is sick right now.  Grandma and Grandpa Seacat are visiting and they had a little cold when they got here and now we’re all coughing with runny noses.  The boys are being such great sports.  They’re both all smiley and laughing despite their nasty coughs.  Hopefully it goes away soon!

It’s their birthday, they can cry if they want to, cry if they want to…

Happy Birthday Boys!  Today you turn one.  It’s amazing how fast a year flies by. The day started out great.  Nathan was the first to wake up and Anthony wanted to keep sleeping in.  They got to open a present from Grama and Grampa Seacat… this cute plane that lights up and makes noises.

The boys loved it!
…then the day went down hill…
I scheduled the boys for their year checkup on their birthday… amateur move.  They had to get 4 shots.  Then, to make matters worse we decided to go across the hall to the lab where they took blood work.  After waiting 45 minutes at the time they typically go down for naps the boys were called back to get their blood drawn.  Nathan went first, they stuck him with a needle in his right arm and kept moving it around trying to find a vein.  They had a horrible time and were poking and prodding.  I was holding him as he wailed and I felt wheezy watching them hurt him.  They gave up and said we’d have to bring him back at another time.  Then it was Anthony’s turn.  Steve held him and they did find a vein as huge crocodile tears rolled down his face and he screamed in pain.  It was so sad.
They spent the rest of the day feeling horrible.  We took Anthony’s temperature around 5 pm and it was 102.6!  So we started freaking out and trying to cool him down.  Needless to say, they still enjoyed their favorite dinner (Daddy’s spaghetti), a little bit of chocolate cake, a nice warm bath, and some bedtime snuggles.
